Nvidia has issued a security alert for the previous versions of its display drivers. An issue with its last set of drivers could expose users to denial of service attacks and exposure of personal information to hackers. ThreatPost reports on the Nvidia security bulletin, and explains that the problem arose from the driver’s kernel mode layer handler component. Shared data wasn’t being synchronized properly, which opened up a vulnerability to malicious attacks, according to Nvidia’s release statement. The driver’s installer, too, contained a high-risk security threat. ThreatPost notes that the program incorrectly loaded Windows system DLLs without validating their paths or signatures. What this all means practically speaking is that if you’re using an Nvidia product, such as one of its GTX-based GPUs, you should double-check to make sure your drivers are up to date. The updated version, at the time of this writing, is 430.64. You can check your driver version by opening the Nvidia Control Panel from your system tray or Start menu in Windows. Click link to System Information in the bottom-left corner of the window, and you’ll find the version of the GeForce driver you’re currently running.
