Jordan Peele's Get Out Follow-Up Sounds Great And Terrifying

Since the release of his 2017 directorial debut Get Out--which snagged the Best Original Screenplay award at the 90th Academy Awards ceremony earlier this year--fans and critics alike have been anxiously awaiting Jordan Peele's follow-up, Us. Though information has been sparse leading up to its Spring 2019 release date, Slashfilm has revealed the plot synopsis for the upcoming horror film.

According to Slashfilm, Us' plot "sounds similar to that of Darren Aronofsky's divisive thriller Mother!" However, Us differs from the film we called "a singular work of art that film fans shouldn't miss" with the addition of children, something Mother! only briefly introduces during its 121-runtime. Slashfilm also suggests that, though the plot is "clearly intentionally vague," it may offer "an ominous tone and promises Jordan Peele will do something unexpected with a premise we’ve heard before."

You can read the full synopsis below:

"A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid's Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited."

Alongside the actors announced in the plot synopsis, Us will feature Tim Heidecker (Tim & Eric, Ant-Man and the Wasp), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Greatest Showman, Aquaman), Anna Diop (Everybody Hates Chris, Titans), Shahadi Wright Joseph (The Lion King), Evan Alex (Sesame Street, Kidding), Madison Curry, and twins Cali & Noelle Sheldon (who play the same character in 2007's crime drama tv show Life).

Us is scheduled to debut in theatres on March 15, 2019.
