The Sun & Moon – Team Up expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game hits store shelves on February 1, introducing the new Tag Team Pokémon-GX mechanic that puts two Pokémon on the same card to deliver more power and higher stakes; in addition to bringing higher attack power, if your opponent knocks out a Tag Team card, you lose a whopping three prize cards. These Tag Team cards see pairings like Eevee & Snorlax, Celebi & Venusaur, and Pikachu & Zekrom.
These Tag Team Pokémon-GX cards aren't the only cards found in the Team Up expansion. The expansion introduces more than 180 new cards, including 6 Tag Team pairings, 6 standalone Pokémon-GX cards, 4 Prism Star cards, and more than 25 Trainer cards. The Pokémon Company was gracious enough to give us a look at a few of these cards ahead of the expansion's launch.
You can see these cards for the first time below. For some early looks at the Team Up mechanic itself, check out our earlier reveal of two Tag Team Pokémon-GX cards. Also, be sure to check out our interview with Pokémon Trading Card Game director Atsushi Nagashima about the challenges of balancing this new mechanic and how the pairings are decided.
For most new Pokémon TCG expansions, we crack open a ton of booster packs and show off the coolest cards we pulled – we plan on creating a gallery for the Team Up expansion once it launches on February 1 as well. Check out our galleries from past expansions below. You can also head here for an in-depth look at the history of the Pokémon Trading Card game.
