There are a few different weapons in Onimusha: Warlords. You begin with just a basic sword but as you progress through the game, you will unlock other weapons that often come with an elemental affinity, allowing you to greatly increase your damage with magical attacks from various elements.

Raizen: Lightning Sword
You unlock this sword very early in the game, you cannot miss it. It’s sitting atop a shrine in the first temple you reach.
Enryuu: Fire Sword
You can find this sitting atop a pedestal after you speak with the demon that was eating the corpses liver.
Bow
You can find the bow inside the Keep. In a Trick Box here.
Arashi: Wind Sword
You unlock this after defeating the demon warrior atop the roof. It’s a main story battle, you can’t miss it.
Matchlock Gun
This room is locked by a level 3 lock. Once you are inside, there is a statue without a head. You need to defeat the boss in the following location and then loot the nearby treasure chests for the statues head.
Arashi: Wind Sword
You unlock this after defeating the demon warrior atop the roof. It’s a main story battle, you can’t miss it.
Bishamon Sword
You cannot unlock this sword until near the very end of the game. It’s the most powerful sword in the game, one hitting any enemy that is not a boss. In order to unlock the sword you need to complete all 20 stages of the Dark Realm.
After a certain point in the story (avoiding spoilers) you can return to this room and speak with the Cocoon Man that comes down from the ceiling. He will take you to the Dark Realm.
Once you complete the Dark Realm you receive a Bishamon Ocarina. You need to use this in the final save room before the boss fight in the Demon World. Use it in front of the strange, finger looking things in the wall.
