EA’s not worried about Battlefield 5’s Firestorm and Apex Legends competing

We’d been waiting some time to EA’s take on battle royale with Firestorm in Battlefield V, but we got the mode much more suddenly with surprise release of Apex Legends. You might wonder if the publisher is about to be competing against itself with two battle royales on the market, but EA is confident that the experiences will offer different experiences for different types of players. “We think that these, while they sit inside the battle royale kind of genre, are two very different types of experiences,” CEO Andrew Wilson tells investors during an earnings call. “What we have seen is the community who want to play these types of games, it's hundreds of millions of people strong.” The Firestorm release date isn’t expected at least until March, but that still not a whole lot of separation between it and Apex Legends. (And while it’s certainly not in the same genre, the Anthem release date comes right between the two to add a third EA-supported live service in the mix.) Wilson believes the battle royales are distinct enough to coexist.
