All Those amiibo On Your Shelf? You Can't Use Them In Super Mario Maker 2

A mushroom mystery.

Continuing on the theme of strange omissions from Nintendo's upcoming sequel Super Mario Maker 2, arguably one of the biggest disappointments is the lack of amiibo support in the game. This means no mystery mushrooms that turn you into 8-bit renditions of characters from video game history.

As confirmed by GameXplain after speaking with a Nintendo representative, support for the NFC figures seems to have been jettisoned entirely for the sequel. The original Super Mario Maker supported nearly all of the figures in the original Super Mario Bros. playstyle and they provided some wonderful opportunities for levels using treasured characters from both inside and outside the Mushroom Kingdom.
