Ari Aster has emerged as an exciting horror director with his debut film Hereditary and its follow-up Midsommar, both of which were intense and disturbing. Now, in an interview with the Associated Students Program Board of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Aster has opened up about what he's working on next.
Aster, who calls himself a "genre filmmaker" rather than a horror filmmaker, says that his next film will be a "nightmare comedy". While there were certainly elements of comedy to his earlier films, this makes it sound like his third film will skew funnier than Midsommar's moments of levity.
Aster has just finished a new draft of the film, and has revealed a few thin details about the length and content--and he's planning for it to be long. "All I know is that it’s gonna be four hours long, over 17," he said, referring to the likely age rating the film will receive.
