I’ve been stuck in a bit of a cycle of restarting the same old games I usually play or starting new ones that feel just a little bit off from what I was hoping for, so I’m gratefully hoping that the hive mind can recommend a game or 2 that I really sink my teeth into.
A few restrictions / pointers: - I have a Switch and a 3DS. I also have a PS4 but can only play that in intermittent snatches throughout the month due to work and kids.
-
I tend to like lengthier RPGs with a decent cast, a decent story, and a sensible number of mechanics (not a ridiculous number that you feel so overwhelmed many)
- I like games where you unlock features and stuff incrementally (e.g. I like the Yu-Gi-Oh games where you have to slowly build up your repertoire of cards, rather than the ones where they give you everything straight off the bat)
Stuff I’ve played / play and enjoyed:
-
Final Fantasy series (especially Tactics, X, XII and XIV)
-
Pokemon (though losing steam with that)
-
Kingdom Hearts (much prefer the first)
-
Banner Saga
-
Divinity: Original Sin 2
-
Valkyria Chronicles
-
Fire Emblem series
-
Golden Sun
-
Bravely Default
-
Metal Gear Solid I and II and whatever the PSP tactics-style one was called
-
Professor Layton series
Stuff I’ve played and lost interest in: - Xenoblade Chronicles I and II (to me, the play style feels very clunky and the story too naff - though I appreciate that many of the above games I like have naff stories too) - Bravely Second (it was fine, just felt too similar to the first without the same sense of innovation)
Anything spring to mind that you reckon I’d really enjoy? (Also apologies in advance if you recommend something that I’ve missed off the above list - struggling to wrack my brains to think of everything I’ve enjoyed / didn’t enjoy). Thank you!
