I want to buy my first gaming console, but don't know which one to buy.

I've always wanted to get one, but I'm a very worried and indecisive person. To buy one, I would have to do lots of research, stress about it for weeks and then still not know whether to get it or not, which I never felt like doing. What gaming console and model would be the best for playing nba2k, mario kart type games, sonic, zelda, etc.?
