All The Pokemon You Might Have Missed
There are a whole lot of Pokemon in the Detective Pikachu trailer.
The first trailer for the movie adaptation of Detective Pikachu is upon us, and the way it mixes live-action human actors and computer-generated monsters and animals is definitely a bit of a surprise. Turning cartoon creatures into things that look like they could really exist is always an undertaking and can have mixed results, but in Detective Pikachu, Pokemon seem to be just the right mix of weirdly cute, and just weird.
There are now 809 Pokemon in the world of the games, which means there's no shortage of creatures to add into Detective Pikachu. While there's probably no way fans will see every Pokemon receive a real-looking render in the movie, you can still see quite a few possibilities of what Pokemon might look like in real life in the movie's first trailer.
Fan-favorite starters like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander make appearances and Mr. Mime and Psyduck get something of starring roles, but there are a few of the more obscure Pokemon scattered around in the backgrounds of plenty of shots, as well.
We've poured over the trailer to find all the creatures hidden behind scenery, actors, and other Pokemon. Here's a look at all the live-action Pokemon Detective Pikachu has produced so far. Oh, and don't forget to check out the trailer and see the movie's poster.
Ryme City, Home Of Lots Of Pokemon
Our first look at Ryme City.
The first short look at Ryme City, where humans and Pokemon live together in harmony, is full of Pokemon lurking in backgrounds. Up front we have a Charmander and just behind him, a Dodrio walking around town. Hidden in the crowd in the center of the frame is a Bouffalant. In the air, there looks to be a Pidgeotto swooping around.
More Flying Pokemon In Ryme City
The skies are teeming with tiny, easy-to-miss Pokemon.
Also spotted in the air appear to be Flabebe, Comfey, Pidgey, and Emolga, plus more Pokemon depicted on the signs of businesses. Look for Wooper on the Day Dream sign, with Victini, Gloomy, and Petilil on others.
Psyduck And The Pokemon Parade
Lucy and her Psyduck are ready for a road trip.
Lucy (Katheryn Newton) and her Psyduck pal look to be picking up Tim (Justice Smith) and Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) for the road trip that takes place later in the trailer. You can also spot parade balloons depicting Gengar and Jigglypuff behind them.
Tim's Pokemon Posters
Tim's quite the Pokemon fan.
Tim posters reference a bunch of Pokemon and championship battles. Starting from left to right, there's Blastoise, Dragonite, Hypno, and Charizard, plus a long Rayquaza on top, and a shoutout to a battle between Articuno and Steelix just beneath it.
Even More Pokemon Posters
Man that's a lot of Pokemon posters.
That's Zekrom fighting Rishiram on the poster behind Tim.
Don't Forget Pikachu
And of course, Pikachu.
Pikachu isn't like the other Pokemon in the movie, thanks to the fact that he and Tim can understand each other--something that's impossible for other humans in the Pokemon world.
Pokemon Gotta Shop
You can pick out quite a few Pokemon from the crowd here.
The scene that finds Tim and Pikachu at a market is full of hidden Pokemon. On top of one of the stands on the top left of the frame is a trio of Emolga, and obscured by people buying things down in the center is a pink Audino. You can also spot the head of a Dodrio sticking out of the crowd in the center of the frame.
Also Venusaur At The Market
There's a Venusaur in there if you look closely.
A later look at the same market reveals a tough-to-spot Venusaur perusing a stand on the left. Look for the big flower on its back, and its green reptile face partially obscured by people milling around.
Have You Seen Squirtle And Pancham?
This seems like a subplot.
The missing Pokemon being searched for in Ryme City include a Squirtle and a Pancham.
The Missing Squirtle And Pancham?
This seems like an underground, possibly illegal Pokemon fight club.
Soon after we see the missing posters for Squirtle and Pancham, we see this shot of what looks like a Pokemon fight club. You can see Pancham at the bottom of the shot, plus an obscured Squirtle over on there right.
Rufflet Ready To Fight
There might be even more missing Pokemon in this shot.
You can also spot a Rufflet behind the fence on the left side, next to and behind Pikachu.
More Psyduck
Going road-tripping with Psyduck is probably not annoying at all.
Psyduck fans will be glad to see he pops up quite a bit.
Bulbasaur And Morelull Parade
Where do all these bulbasaurs hang out, and can we go there please.
Bulbasaurs have somewhere to be in this shot, apparently, and they're joined by a handful of floating Morelulls as well.
Jigglypuff Isn't Messing Around
Don't mess with Jigglypuff.
Looks like this Jigglypuff is not too happy about the effects of his song on restaurant patrons. There's also a Machamp and a Primeape depicted on the poster behind.
Greninjas On The Hunt
These Greninjas seem very dangerous.
It looks as though these Greninjas, which are some bipedal frog guys, are going to be major antagonists for Tim and Pikachu. They seem to be chasing the pair several times in the film.
T-shirt Of The Unown
Tim's T-shirts are Pokemon, but they do have low-key references to some.
Tim shows his Pokemon love with a pair of different white T-shirts. This one references the shape of Unown H.
Unown Fashion Sense
Tim has some cool Pokemon t-shirts, gotta say.
Later in the trailer, Tim wears another Unown T-shirt, this time with Unown O on it.
A Quiet Interrogation Of Mr. Mime
Mr. Mime is no snitch.
A goofier scene in the trailer is all about the extremely creepy looking Mr. Mime.
Charizard Is The Scariest
It wouldn't be a Pokemon movie without Charizard.
Pikachu has his work cut out for him battling this extremely dangerous-looking Charizard at the end of the trailer.
