Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Flappy Fighter’, ‘Choice of Games’, ‘Fortnite’, ‘Marvel Strike Force’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Plenty of neat stuff to look at this week, from new narrative adventures to movie tie-ins to the all-exciting, all-fantastic bug fixes. I’ve put together an assemblage of interesting delights for you to dig into as you kick off this final week of May, and I do hope you’ll enjoy them. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Choice of Games, Free It’s almost a refrain by now, but if you see Choice of Games appear in these articles, it means a new adventure has been added to the app. The latest game you can buy via IAP is called Fool. It’s a lengthy adventure written by Ben Rovik where you take on the role of court jester and try to make your way through a fantasy world. What kind of fool will you be? Sardonic and sharp? Mirthful and silly? And behind the proverbial mask, are you a manipulator? An adviser? The choices are yours. Also, you get a pet ape, so that’s pretty great too. Well friends, you know me. If Choice of Games puts out something new, I’ll be there with bells on. Guess I’ll give it the coveted UMMSotW award this time.

ANOTHER EDEN, Free Well, I suppose it was about time for another update for Another Eden. Heh, time. Shaun, you clever cat. Anyway, this has about what you’d expect to see in a regular update for the game. You’ve got a new Otherlands titled Otherlands: Baruoki. Two new characters, Ewan and Erina, can now be encountered. There’s also been an update to regular Ally Encounters. The big news is the addition to the Spacetime Rift, Nopaew Emporium. You’ll now be able to upgrade armor and weapons. Oh boy, that usually means added grinding, but I guess we’ll see. Aside from that, there are some bug fixes and minor UI tweaks.

MARVEL Strike Force, Free It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie that so perfectly embodied the idea of a dead man walking as Dark Phoenix. A bit of a sad end for such an important and influential movie series, but oh well. Time heals all wounds. Anyway, it makes sense that Fox’s Marvel game would be the one to kind of, sort of do a tie-in with that movie. And so it does, with a spiffy Phoenix-style icon and plenty of new X-Men content. Three new playable characters are the highlight here, with Psylocke, Colossus, and America Chavez joining the fray. A new legendary character is coming soon, and yeah, it’s Phoenix. Beyond that, you’ve got a whole mess of UI improvements and plenty of bug fixes.

Game of Thrones: Conquestâ„¢, Free Whether you loved it, hated it, or fell somewhere in between, HBO’s Game of Thrones is now finished. I’m not sure where exactly that leaves this game going forward, but I’m sure it’ll muddle through somehow. Anyway, the latest version seems to be about a building upgrade event. You can also grow your dragon to the Adult stage and even though I feel that is probably its own reward, you will also get some goodies for doing that. Don’t forget to take a screenshot of it when you finally finish raising it. You never know, it may be used in film studies classes one day.

Fortnite, Free Some games make it into these articles because the updates are just so good that I have to scream from the rooftops about them. Other games make it into these articles because they are super-popular and if I don’t mention every little thing they do, people will ask why I’m not mentioning them. I’ll let you decide which one Fortnite is. This update isn’t exactly an impressive one, but hey, here we go. New hot spots on the map will see Loot Carriers appear, and you can shoot them down to get some additional weapons. The locations are randomly selected, so you can’t just camp out, but at the very least some help might come when you aren’t expecting it.

Toon Blast, Free Well, if there’s one way to get me excited about a hum-drum update that contains basically the same cup of coffee you poured me last time, it’s by mentioning pizza. Take note, marketing people. Toon Blast‘s latest update doesn’t do anything unusual by any means. Like the one hundred or so updates before, it adds 50 new levels to the game. It also puts in a couple of cute comments to contextualize the new content, even if said context will not appear anywhere in the game itself. And this time, the context is pizza. Bruno is making pizza. You get 50 new levels. Somehow in this weird world of ours, these two happenings are connected.

Brawl Stars, Free I don’t know, I kind of like how Brawl Stars is like the Jan Brady of the Supercell line-up. Not as popular as its sisters, but it’s out there trying all the time. The newest version adds a whole new area to the world called Retropolis. It brings with it some new skins, as well as new environments and maps. Not related to that but also included in this update is new Epic Brawler Bibi, who brought a baseball bat to a gun fight and still makes it work. Plus, the gum she chews is used in her super attack. Neat. After that, it’s all bug fixes and balance adjustments. You go, Jan.

Gardenscapes, Free Well, this is actually a really big update by Gardenscapes standards. Teams have been added to the game. Join a team and you can chat with other members, exchange lives, and get some free coins. As you all play and beat levels, you’ll work towards opening up Team Chests that contain various rewards. This update also adds in a new storyline chapter that sees Chester preparing for a performance of Romeo and Juliet in the garden. You’ll naturally need to build and decorate an amphitheater for the event. The new gameplay gimmick is pie, which needs to be removed from the field slice by slice. They say no pie is bad, but maybe this one is?

Disney Magic Kingdoms, Free Disney has a lot going on movie-wise this year, and well, since they own like 75% of Hollywood at this point, that’s probably always going to be the case. But even setting aside the company’s greater umbrella, this is a pretty big summer for Disney proper. The live-action Aladdin is in theaters now and it seems to be doing very well. And it won’t be long before Toy Story 4 is upon us, no doubt making all of us who said that there shouldn’t be another Toy Story movie after the last one was so perfect eat our words once more. Both of those films are getting some representation in Disney Magic Kingdoms in this update, so make sure to swing on in and check out the new characters and stuff.

Flappy Fighter, Free Eh, I’ll say it: I don’t really get what the developer is doing with updates for this game, and I’m not sure I like it at all. So, in the last update we got Splashy, the second character for the game who was clearly based on Street Fighter‘s Ken. But at the same time, it removed Flappy as a playable character. In this update, Flappy is back, but now we can’t play as Splashy anymore. Instead, Splashy is now the opponent. I mean, I’m happy we’re finally out of the mirror matches, but it would be nice if we could at least flip that around as we like. Because my gut tells me the next update is going to only let us use Splashy against Flappy, and I’m sitting here wondering whether this game is going to reach its potential before people just move on. Oh well. Flappy is back. Have fun unlocking everything again. At least you keep your costume colors.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
