It’s a good time to be a zombie. After many years of zombie apocalypse games where a bunch of annoying humans are killing zombies and suppressing their uprising, this past week has been a lot kinder to our undead friends. Just last week Zombie Night Terror made its way to iOS from Steam, and it’s a game that has you playing on the side of zombies trying to infect all the regular humans in the game. While mechanically it’s quite different, that premise alone brought to mind Infectonator, which started life as a Flash game back in 2010 and made a splash with a mobile port in 2012. Rather than a 2D Lemmings-like puzzler like Zombie Night Terror, Infectonator is a top-down action strategy game, but the premise is essentially the same. Plop some zombies down in public and have them gnaw on as many human brains as they can before the fuzz has a chance to kill you, thus turning those pesky humans into infected zombies. It’s a simplistic game but with a deceptive amount of depth and strategy, as well as an incredibly addictive progression system. Just over a year ago the third mainline Infectonator game, Infectonator 3: Apocalypse, launched on Steam and now this week its making its way to iOS.
Fans of the original Infectonator may remember that it was a free to play game, and while it was mostly inoffensive, there was definitely a grind as you played and replayed levels to earn enough coins to buy much-needed upgrades. For free players this grind could become a little too repetitive, diminishing the experience of an otherwise enjoyable game. Well Infectonator 3 is a fully premium game with no IAP, and the iOS version is coming with everything that’s available in the full desktop version. Nothing has been cut out. This includes more than 200 levels that will provide 10-20 hours of gameplay or more, not to mention weekly challenges and Game Center achievements. It sort of sounds like the ultimate Infectonator experience. The iOS version of Infectonator 3: Apocalypse is set to launch this Thursday for $4.99 so be sure to check it out when it hits.
