Grinding Gear Games has been teasing Path of Exile’s 4.0.0 mega expansion for quite a while, and we still don’t know much about what to expect from it. Studio director Chris Wilson says we’ll learn more at ExileCon this November, and that the update represents a “next-generation” step for the game. Wilson’s even confident about the update taking on Diablo 4. “That 4.0.0 expansion is going to take on Diablo 4, as far as we're concerned.” Wilson tells us. “It’s the next generation of action-RPGs and represents a really big upgrade to Path of Exile. And so, we'll be teasing that at Exilecon, and players will get some hands-on time with a very early build of it, which should be really exciting.” ExileCon runs on November 16 and 17 in Auckland, New Zealand, but the 4.0.0 update itself is still “a year and a half away.” We know Diablo 4 won’t launch in 2019 - nor will any other major new Blizzard game - but reports on the Diablo 4 release date suggest it might be ready for a 2020 launch. Assuming it doesn’t hit any more development hiccups, that is.
