PlayStation VR Engineer Richard Marks Joins Google

Richard Marks, an engineer who has worked on experimental PlayStation tech like PlayStation Eye, Move, and PSVR, has joined Google in one of their high-profile hirings of video game engineers and futurists.

Marks joins after Google's hiring of former Sony executive Phil Harrison this past January, fueling rumors that the company was working on their own console. These rumors developed into speculation about Google pushing a cloud-based console and/or service codenamed "Yeti," with a growing volume of whispers saying Google is courting developers and looking to announce plans publicly before too long.

Regardless of when they plan to announce anything, Google is clearly gearing up to take on gaming in a way they haven't before, but it will be interesting to see how they actually plan to go about it.

There have been rumors of various cloud services and devices, including from Microsoft, but Microsoft claims to have figured out latency issues. Presumably their solution is proprietary and they plan to keep it to themselves, so Google hypothetically trying out something similar could definitely use an engineer like Marks to figure out their own solution.
