The Messenger, out tomorrow, is a Ninja Gaiden-inspired indie platformer that wears that inspiration on its sleeve. The game even goes as far to literally mention Ninja Gaiden by name early on when the journey begins.
Devolver Digital realized it made sense to have Ninja Gaiden's director Hideo Yoshizawa and composer Keiji Yamagishi play through The Messenger and chat about the game and even talk a bit about their own experiences making one of the NES's most notable and punishing action-platforming games. For example, did you know Nintendo asked Tecmo to create an underwater level for the game because they, for some reason, thought platformers needed one?
